Born in 1957, Mary Rumble is related to highly esteemed artist Gloria and Kathleen Petyarre. She has two children Dorothy and Albert Kngwarreye. Initially she created in the medium of batik along with over eighty other women from the Utopia Region in Central Australia. Her batik work is featured in “Utopia – A Picture Story”. Mary’s dreaming stories are of her father’s country. The Rock Hole in her father’s Country,  Utopia is called ‘Atekerrte’. It is an important dreaming place as the rock Hole fills up with water giving both humans and animalslife sustaining water, which of course is very important in desert Country. The symbolic gesture of the Rock Hole is prosperity in one of the most important elements in nature, water.
